The purpose of just about every diet and exercise program is to burn body fat tissue. While this is true it is amazing just how many people actually gain weight while using a diet and exercise program. Of course this is not the fault of the diet and exercise program as there are countless programs available for all people to successfully burn body fat tissue. The main reason that so many people actually gain weight while using a diet and exercise program is that they do not follow the program as prescribed.
Failing to burn body fat tissue is most often a direct result of a dieter changing the program to suit his or her own personal needs. For example, a dieter who replaces a chicken breast and a handful of grapes with a chicken sandwich and small fries from a fast food restaurant is guaranteed to gain weight. The addition of condiments such as butter, cheese, salad dressing, mayonnaise, ketchup, peanut butter, etc. to otherwise healthy foods will ruin a dieters ability to burn body fat tissue. And needless to say unhealthy and fattening condiments added to otherwise healthy foods will cause dieters to gain weight.
It is not uncommon for dieters to burn body fat tissue while at the same time put on a few extra pounds of muscle tissue. In this case it would be considered a good thing to actually gain weight. The most effective body fat burning programs are low in carbohydrates and high in protein. And since most people normally consume meals that are high in carbohydrates and low in protein the extra protein will cause dieters to gain weight via extra muscle tissue making their bodies appear much more firm and toned.
Putting on a few extra pounds will not only give the appearance of a firm and toned physique but muscle will actually further aid in the burning of body fat tissue since muscle burns fat. This concept is difficult to comprehend for those who are addicted to stepping on the scale and do not want to gain weight regardless of whether it is a benefit to them or not as they are overly fixated on the numbers. Those who are serious about burning body fat tissue should do away with stepping on a scale altogether because the scale does not tell the whole story. As it is possible to gain weight via muscle tissue while still losing fat tissue but the scale has stayed the same because muscle weighs more than fat.
