So it’s Saturday night again, and you and your significant other are heading out for a night on the town. But you’re not as excited as you should be, after all this is the big night of the week; you finally get to have a fun night out with the person you care for the most. However, you are beginning to see these nights as the same old same old. You’re in a rut.
To keep things interesting, you have to mix it up a little bit. Nothing is fun, not even the Gut Buster at the local fair. You need to keep things fresh, you have to treat each Date Night as if it were the First Date. Here are four ideas to ponder over before Saturday night rears its head yet again.
Tickle your funny bone
When couples go out, restaurants, pubs, night clubs, coffee shops or the movies are the common destinations. But instead of going out for the time-tested “dinner-and-a-movie”, try out a comedy club. Everybody loves to laugh, and by laughing, you’ll be in better spirits, making the rest of the night much more entertaining. Like going to the movies, you will have plenty to talk about after the comedian has split your sides. Plus, it is always fresh; most comedy clubs have a different act each week, so variety is always available.
Take a drive
Getting into the car and taking a drive is a great way to spark conversation. The view itself should be rewarding, if you can get out of the city and enjoy some of the beauty nature can provide.
Some find driving too stressful, but they are seeing things in a poor light. Indeed, driving can be stressful, especially if you are stuck in traffic and you have somewhere to be. But when you go out for a relaxing drive, you have no destination so it doesn’t matter if it takes longer than you’d expect. The drive itself is the goal. You will be quite surprised at how relaxing and enjoyable it is for both you and your partner, regardless of who is driving.
Not all dates have to take place outside of your house. If you have kids, send them to the babysitter as opposed to having the babysitter come to you. This way, you’ll have an empty house for just the two of you. Put on your favorite music, and prepare a meal together. If one of you is a terrible cook, it doesn’t matter; have the experienced cook take control and give directions. Hey, it works for Woody Allen, so it should work for you too! Have fun with it too; don’t be afraid to throw a little flour on each other for a little whimsical fun.
Watch something live
Like going to the comedy club, watching a live performance is a welcome change from the movie theater. Go to a concert of any kind; in fact try to get tickets for a genre of music you usually don’t listen to, such as attending an orchestral performance. Or, try attending a sporting event that neither of you follow. Once again, you will have plenty to talk about afterwards over a cup of coffee and a slice of pie.
