The Zone Diet created by Dr. Barry Sears is a very unique yet effective diet for attaining weight loss results. Actually The Zone Diet unlike a lot of diets does not simply produce weight loss results. Unlike a lot of diets this one produces actual fat burning results. Fat burning results meaning a loss of pure body fat tissue without losing any water or muscle weight in the process.
Most diets believe it or not are not set up to produce fat burning results but rather weight loss results which means a loss of mostly water and muscle weight with only limited amounts of fat tissue. The Zone Diet produces more than just weight loss results by manipulating the body’s Insulin levels. More specifically, this diet manipulates the body’s Insulin levels in order to place the body in what is referred to as the fat burning zone. Hence the name The Zone Diet.
With The Zone Diet the key to controlling Insulin is to consume carbohydrates that are ranked low on the glycemic index. The lower the glycemic index of a carbohydrate the better the fat burning results. The higher the glycemic index the less fat burning results and the more fat storage will result. As if this were not enough The Zone Diet goes a step further towards making the low glycemic carbohydrates even lower.
The Zone Diet goes a step further towards making the low glycemic carbohydrates even lower by having dieters eat protein and mono-unsaturated fats with them. Lowering the already low glycemic level of low glycemic carbohydrates makes the fat burning results even more effective. This is the uniqueness of The Zone Diet that separates it from all other diets. Unique because mono-unsaturated fats are added to healthy, relatively low fat meals on purpose (for the purpose of fat burning) such as by consuming a teaspoon of peanut butter with each meal.
That is right, part of the effectiveness of The Zone Diet comes from having dieters purposely consume extra grams of fat. Similar to the saying “you have to spend money to make money” this diet says “you have to eat fat to get fat burning results”. However, purposely consuming mono-unsaturated fat with each meal only works with the combination of low glycemic carbohydrates and protein as outlined in The Zone Diet. For example, consuming mono-unsaturated fat on top of a high glycemic, low protein meal will not produce fat burning results but will rather make the already fattening meal more fattening.
Even though The Zone Diet is effective it is obviously not for everyone. This diet is not for everyone because to get the desired fat burning results requires a specific consumption ratio of 40% protein, 30% carbohydrates and 30% fats, a knowledge of the glycemic index as well as a full understanding of proteins, carbohydrates and fats so as to be able to make meals consisting of 40% protein, 30% carbohydrates and 30% fats. In other words, there is a good deal of thinking and food preparation involved in the use of The Zone Diet. The majority of overweight people have enough trouble eating the required meals that produce fat burning results and having to actually make such meals just makes an already difficult process that much more difficult.
